ARVO Advocacy Day: A Powerful Voice for Vision Research

ARVO’s 2026 Advocacy Day was a tremendous success, bringing together researchers, clinicians, patient advocates, and emerging scientists from across the vision community to engage directly with Members of Congress and their staff on Capitol Hill.

Throughout the day, advocates shared firsthand insights into the importance of sustained federal investment in vision research and the critical role of the National Eye Institute in driving discoveries that prevent blindness and restore sight. These conversations help ensure policymakers understand how research advances not only improve patient outcomes but also strengthen innovation and economic growth.

With a record number of advocates participating, this year’s Advocacy Day demonstrated the strength and unity of the vision research community. By elevating scientific expertise and patient perspectives in policy discussions, participants helped reinforce why vision research must remain a national priority.

Thank you to ARVO and all the advocates who dedicated their time and passion to advancing the future of sight.

“Advocacy Day shows the power of the vision community coming together to ensure policymakers understand how federal investment in research drives discoveries that prevent blindness and restore sight. When researchers and patients share their stories directly with Congress, it makes the impact of vision research impossible to ignore.”
