Stand Up for Sight-Saving Science

Championing breakthrough vision science

Brief History

Advancing vision research through advocacy, collaboration, and discovery.
For decades, Alliance for Vision Research has worked to ensure vision research remains a national priority. By connecting scientists, clinicians, patient advocates, industry leaders, and policymakers, the organization has elevated the importance of federal investment in discoveries that prevent blindness and restore sight.

The Beginning of a Unified Voice
Alliance for Vision Research traces its roots to the National Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (NAEVR) and Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (AEVR), organizations created to strengthen federal advocacy for vision research. Together, they built a platform for the vision community to speak with one voice on Capitol Hill—uniting researchers, clinicians, patient organizations, and industry to advance research, inform policymakers, and improve outcomes for patients affected by blinding diseases.

Connecting the vision community

Bringing the Vision Community Together

Alliance for Vision Research convenes leaders across the vision ecosystem, bringing together researchers, clinicians, patient advocacy organizations, industry innovators, and policymakers. This collaborative approach ensures the voices of those advancing discovery—and those affected by vision loss—are heard in policy discussions.

From its founding to today, our mission remains clear: to ensure that vision research continues to transform lives and that its impact is seen, understood, and supported.

Friends of NEI

Driving Investment in Vision Research

Since its inception, Alliance has served as a leading advocate for the National Eye Institute—often referred to as the “Friends of the NEI” working to ensure continued federal investment in vision research and protect its role as a standalone institute within the NIH.
