NAEVR ANNOUNCES ADVOCACY AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AT THE 2015 ARVO ANNUAL MEETING
(Washington, D.C.) Today, the National Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (NAEVR) announced events in which it would be engaged at the 2015 ARVO Annual Meeting, to be held May 3-7, 2015, at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado.
The National Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (NAEVR) is a 501(c)4 non-profit advocacy coalition comprised of 55 professional, consumer, and industry organizations involved in eye and vision research. Visit the Web site at www.eyeresearch.org.
- NAEVR Central Booth, located within ARVO Central, open Sunday-Wednesday, where attendees can Contact Congress to support Fiscal Year (FY) 2016 increases in federal funding for vision research, as well as learn about research funding resources, such as the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) BRAIN Initiative and multiple Department of Defense (DOD) funding opportunities to study vision trauma research gaps.
- ARVO’s Vision and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in Veterans and Athletes Session on Saturday, May 2, from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm in the Mile High Ballroom (Section 1CD) of the Colorado Convention Center. The session features prominent investigators studying TBI and visual dysfunction in military service members, veterans, and civilians.
- NAEVR’s Defense-Related Vision Research Opportunities Session on Monday, May 4, from 7:30-8:30 am in Room 205/207 of the Colorado Convention Center. NAEVR has invited DOD representatives to speak about the Peer Reviewed Vision Research Program (VRP) funding opportunities and past awardees to offer insights into how researchers can be most responsive to the FY2015 VRP Program Announcement, likely to issue shortly and offer at least $9 million in awards. DOD representatives will also be available to meet with researchers throughout the meeting to discuss individual research projects-a meeting sign-up sheet will be available at the Monday morning session.
- ARVO’s Meeting Eye Health Needs paper session on Monday, May 4, from 11:00 am - 12:45 pm in the Mile High Ballroom (Section 1CD). At 12:30 pm, Adrienne Scott, M.D., of the Wilmer Eye Institute/Johns Hopkins University will present a paper entitled “Attitudinal Survey of Americans on Eye and Vision Health” based on AEVR’s 2014 survey regarding the public’s attitudes about vision/vision loss, which was commissioned by Research!America from Zogby Analytics and sponsored by a grant from Research to Prevent Blindness (RPB).
