NAEVR CENTRAL BOOTH AT 2011 ARVO ANNUAL MEETING SERVES AS “TOWN HALL” FOR NEI/DOD RESEARCH FUNDING QUESTIONS AND ADVOCACY; NAEVR HOSTS MAY 2 DEFENSE VISION SESSION

(Washington, D.C.) Today, the National Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (NAEVR) announced plans regarding its significant presence at the 2011 ARVO Annual Meeting, to be held May 1-5, 2011, at the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

  • NAEVR Central (within ARVO Central) will serve as a "Town Hall" for activities regarding vision research funding questions and advocacy, including an opportunity to Contact Congress to support federally funded vision research. [located to the immediate left as you enter Hall B/C at the convention center]

  • A Monday, May 2, Defense-Related Vision Research Opportunities session featuring representatives from the Department of Defense’s (DOD) Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) and the joint DOD/Veterans Affairs (VA) Vision Center of Excellence (VCE), as well as vision researchers who received Fiscal Year 2010 awards. [Palm B, 7:30 – 8:30 am, RSVP to depstein@eyeresearch.org]

  • TATRC representatives will meet one-on-one with researchers at NAEVR Central from Monday-Wednesday. [A sign-up sheet to schedule appointments will be available Sunday at NAEVR Central and at the Monday morning briefing in Palm B]
“NAEVR Central was constantly busy throughout the 2010 ARVO Annual Meeting, and we are once again looking forward to answering questions about vision research funding opportunities and engaging researchers in contacting Congress to support research funding increases,” said NAEVR Executive Director James Jorkasky.
