NAEVR ANNOUNCES ADVOCACY AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AT THE 2013 ARVO ANNUAL MEETING

(Washington, D.C.) Today, the National Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (NAEVR) announced initial plans regarding its significant presence at the 2013 ARVO Annual Meeting, to be held May 5-9, 2013, at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, Washington.

In NAEVR Central (A3, located within ARVO Central, Exhibit Booths A1-3) during the entire meeting, attendees can:

  • Contact Congress to support Fiscal Year (FY) 2014 increases in federally funded vision research at the National Eye Institute (NEI) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH) appropriations and Vision Trauma Research Program (VTRP) funding at $10 million in Department of Defense (DOD) appropriations.

  • Learn about research funding resources, such as multiple DOD funding opportunities to meet critical deployment-related vision trauma research gaps.
NAEVR’s Defense-Related Vision Research Opportunities Session will be held on Monday, May 6, from 7:30-8:30 am in The Conference Center Room 202. NAEVR has invited DOD representatives to speak about FY2013 VTRP funding opportunities and past DOD awardees to offer insights into how researchers can be most responsive to the VTRP Program Announcement, likely to issue in the May/June timeframe and offer at least $9 million in awards.

ARVO will also present a Veterans Session on Sunday, May 5, from 1:00 – 2:30 pm in Ballroom 6E of the Washington State Convention Center. The session features prominent investigators studying Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and visual function in military service members, veterans, and civilians.

The National Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (NAEVR) is a 501(c)4 non-profit advocacy coalition comprised of 55 professional, consumer, and industry organizations involved in eye and vision research. Visit the Web site at www.eyeresearch.org.
